Listen to James Blake’s dark new track

Last month James Blake revealed that his new album is “50 percent” done, and now the Mercury Prize-winning producer has debuted a new track on BBC 1.

Appearing on his friend Jamie xx’s show on Wednesday night Blake dropped the moody track with no indication as to whether it would appear on his forthcoming record. The instrumental piece is an immersive sample-heavy cut, much darker than anything we have heard from Blake previously. Listen to a rip of the song below.

In an interview with Billboard in June, Blake let slip that he has been working on the follow up to 2013’s Overgrown with Fall Creek Boys Choir collaborator Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), in addition to “sporadically” writing with Kanye West “when he’s around”. While he remained tight-lipped on whether either of those collaborations would make the final cut he did mention a mysterious third collaborator that he is “really excited about”.

Last year Blake pipped favourite’s David Bowie, Disclosure and Laura Mvula when his record Overgrown won the coveted Mercury Prize. He was also nominated in 2011 for his self-titled debut.
